Charger Metals has commenced RC drilling at the Lake Johnston Lithium Project in Western Australia (WA).

The project, located 450km east of Perth in the Yilgarn Province, is being funded by Rio Tinto Exploration as part of a farm-in agreement with Charger Metals.

It is positioned along a 50km corridor adjacent to the Lake Johnston granite batholith.

The RC drilling programme, which includes up to 5,000m of drilling, aims to test priority lithium targets at the greater Medcalf prospect and the Mt Gordon prospect.

At the greater Medcalf Prospect, the drilling campaign seeks to explore potential strike extensions to the previously discovered high-grade lithium mineralisation.

This includes spodumene-bearing pegmatites that have been identified in past drilling efforts. The focus will also be on a 1.2km strike of outcropping spodumene-bearing pegmatites, which have yielded rock chips with up to 4.2% lithium oxide.

The Mt Gordon Prospect will see RC drilling target extensive soil anomalies that stretch more than 3km to the adjacent Jaegermeister Lithium Prospect, which was delineated by TG Metals.

The exploration programme has a budget of A$3m for 2024 and is expected to be completed within six to eight weeks, weather permitting.

Charger managing director Aidan Platel said: “We are excited to have commenced our RC drill programmes at Lake Johnston. The priority drill targets are in and around the Medcalf Prospect where we have previously confirmed a high-grade spodumene system.

“We are also eager to drill our first holes into the Mt Gordon Prospect, which has excellent lithium potential, and will keep the market informed as results are received.”
