Canada-headquartered Tantalex Lithium has produced its first batch of tin and tantalum concentrates from its Titan plant, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The first batch of 10 t of exportable high-grade industrial and fully traceable tin concentrates has been processed in Manono. An additional 2.5 t of tantalum concentrates have also been produced.
All production from TiTan is sold through an offtake agreement with AfriMet Resources. The agreement, signed in January, entitles AfriMet to purchase up to 2 400 t of tin concentrate over 14 months at a rate of 100 dry metric tonnes a month.
The plant is currently running approximately 50 t/h for an average of 8 h/d. The objective within the next three months is to run the plant at 130 t/h, 16 h/d.
“With our current optimization programme under way, I am extremely confident that we will reach our production targets in the very near term,” said chairperson Hadley Natus.
