Austria’s premier aluminium company AMAG Austria Metall AG has been awarded the top rating for environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) by a top sustainability rating company.
AMAG received the highest rating by Sustainalytics this year, ranking as the second-best firm of the 223 companies the organization audited. AMAG was the best of 39 total aluminium companies audited by Sustainalytics.
Gerald Mayer, CEO of AMAG Austria Metall AG, said in a press release that his firm is excited to receive the recognition.
“The certification as the world’s most sustainable aluminum company fills us with considerable pride and confirms our sustainability strategy with its focus on innovation, sustainability, diversity and the human touch. We received an excellent assessment from Sustainalytics in the areas of business ethics, occupational safety, emissions management and resource efficiency.”
Sustainalytics evaluates the companies it audits along a wide range of factors, including environmental performance, resource conservation, compliance with human rights, and supply chain management. Its process has two prongs: the level of exposure each company has to ESG risks and the quality of their response to those risks.
The Morningstar subsidiary examines over 14 thousand companies across 138 industries and evaluates them on industry-specific risks in the area of ESG.
