Hyundai Steel Co., South Korea's second-largest steelmaker, announced on Thursday that it has successfully collaborated with the in-house startup 3I Solution to domestically develop an industrial neutron composition analyzer.
A neutron composition analyzer is a device that analyzes the composition of materials using the unique gamma rays generated when elements react with neutrons. With this analyzer, it is possible to conduct complete inspections during the transfer of materials and apply real-time data generated to enhance production efficiency in the manufacturing process.
Until now, the existing process for analyzing the composition of iron ore and iron scrap took an average of about 8 hours from raw material sampling to inspection.
Hyundai Steel is considering the on-site implementation of 3I Solution's neutron composition analyzer. Through this, it aims to secure cost competitiveness and anticipate its application in the analysis of prime iron scrap composition, which is expected to increase in demand due to the transition to a carbon-neutral production system.
"Our company plans to gradually expand the market through the domestic production and commercialization of the neutron composition analyzer. We will lead and support process innovation in various fields, including the steel industry, secondary battery recycling and non-destructive analysis markets," said an official of 3I Solution.
