The Ontario government announced last week a C$1 million grant to local food and beverage packaging manufacturer Lintec Label and Print Solutions to aid in developing sustainable packaging and labeling solutions in the southern portion of the Canadian province.

Lintec, which has been in the labeling and packaging business for almost three decades, will use the grant to add advanced manufacturing equipment to make new aluminium foil, paper, and bioplastic bags, pouches, and other containers that are recyclable, compostable, and cost effective.

The project will be a boon to the partnership Lintec has with Lambton College, which supports Lintec’s efforts by contributing research to improve recyclability, safety, reliability, and cost effectiveness of the products on offer by the company.

The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, said in a press release that the drive for sustainable production is strongly backed by the local community.

“Canadians have been clear – they want to grow their local economy and ensure a clean environment for future generations. Businesses like Lintec Label and Print Solutions are paving the way for Canadian businesses to meet the demand for more environmentally-friendly products. Our government will continue to support businesses and organizations like Lintec that are committed to finding sustainable solutions for everyday products, supporting a strong future for all Canadians.”

Vance Badawey, Member of Parliament for Niagara Centre, noted the benefit to the local manufacturing community.

“This is great news for Brantford and for southern Ontario’s manufacturing sector. With this investment, Lintec is paving the way for our manufacturers to adopt more environmentally-friendly processes, while strengthening the supply chain and creating jobs.”

Phil Wakely, President, Lintec Label and Print Solutions, lauded the support his firm has received from the government.

“The support from FedDev Ontario is key to us since it will allow Lintec to sustain its product diversification strategy, serve a growing market and continue growing profitably with the remarkable customer service that differentiates us in the marketplace.”

Lintec will use the investment to improve facilities, train current employees, improve sustainable products based upon consumer demand, and add eight new jobs to the local community.
